Keep Your Promises Campaign Resources
ANEW is supporting the Keep Your Promises global campaign calling on decision makers to stick to the commitments they have made to end the sanitation and water crisis.
What is Keep Your Promises?
Keep Your Promises is a global campaign to get decision makers to hold to their promises on ending the global sanitation and water crisis. Decision makers have made promises locally, nationally, regionally and globally to get safe drinking water and sanitation to the world's poorest countries and communities – but words are not enough! These promises must be keptif we are going to ensure that everyone, everywhere has access to water and sanitation.
How we've been involved
On World Toilet Day, November 2012, the Keep Your Promises campaign was officially launched. WaterAid joined campaigners in over 25 countries to organise meetings with their politicians calling for them to stick to their commitments.
At the moment, WaterAid country programmes are joining over 200,000 people across the globe to prepare for the World Walks for Water and Sanitation on and around World Water Day, 22nd March 2013. They'll be walking in solidarity with the millions of people who have to walk for miles each day just to collect water for their basic needs or find a safe place to go to the toilet. They'll be telling politicians that it's time for an end to empty promises – and that commitments must be kept.
Throughout the year, our offices will be joining with thousands of people worldwide to sign the Keep Your Promises petition, calling on decision makers to keep their promises to take action to end the sanitation and water crisis, and work towards providing sanitation and water for all.
Why not join us and personalize the petition to make it relevant to your own country's sanitation and water commitments! Add your own campaign demands to the petition, for example asking for the construction of toilets in your town or village, or increasing the proportion of GDP spent on sanitation and water, and then hand it in to your local or national decision maker.
The Keep Your Promises campaign will culminate at the MDG Summit in
New York in September 2013, when the Keep Your Promises global petition
will be presented to decision makers calling on them to take action to ensure
sanitation and water for all.
