The Department for International Development (DFID) leads the UK’s work to end extreme poverty. We're ending the need for aid by creating jobs, unlocking the potential of girls and women and helping to save lives when humanitarian emergencies hit. DFID is a ministerial department, supported by 2 agencies and public bodies.

AMCOW The African Ministers' Council on Water (AMCOW) was formed in 2002 primarily to promote cooperation, security, social and economic development and poverty eradication among member states through the management of water resources and provision of water supply services. The Mission of AMCOW is to provide political leadership, policy direction and advocacy in the provision, use and management of water resources for sustainable social and economic development and maintenance of African ecosystems.AMCOW has come a long way and will soon become a Specialised committee for water and sanitation in the African Union

European union ANEW undertook an exciting three year project in 17 countries on "Promoting and improving the capacities of African Civil Society Organisations for advocacy and participation in governance to enhance provision of water supply and sanitation and Integrated Water Resources Management" funded by the EU Water Facility, Government of South Africa (DWAF), WaterAid and Freshwater Action Network.

WaterAid is an international non-profit organisation that was first set up as a response to the UN International Drinking Water & Sanitation decade (1981–1990). WaterAid works in 27 countries worldwide, transforming millions of lives every year with clean water, safe toilets and hygiene education. WaterAid works with local partners to help communities make toilets and taps accessible to all, and uses its experience and research to influence decision-makers to do more to provide these vital services. WaterAid is dedicated to helping people escape the poverty and disease caused by living without safe water and sanitation.
WaterAid's vision is of a world where everyone has access to clean water, safe sanitation and good hygiene.

Freshwater Action Network (FAN) Freshwater Action Network (FAN) is a global network of people implementing and influencing water and sanitation policy and practice around the world. FAN works to improve water management by strengthening civil society to influence decision-making.

WSSCC The Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Coucil's vision is of a world where everybody has sustained water supply, sanitation and hygiene. 

WSSCC, together with its Members, staff, partners and donors, strives to achieve this vision. Such a vision is centered upon a belief that sanitation, hygiene and water supply coverage is a universal human right; that people and communities are catalysts of change and can be the focus of transformative action; and that the impact of sound sanitation and hygiene will positively benefit people’s health, dignity, security, livelihoods, as well economic status.
