Chairman

Leo Atakpu

Leo Atakpu has over 14 years experience working on development issues across Africa and beyond and 19 years work experience in the print media, The Nigerian Observer. Leo is co-founder of Society for Water and Sanitation (NEWSAN), a Nigerian network consisting of more than 300 local groups working on a diverse set of water related issues in the country. Collectively the NEWSAN follows national policy on water and sanitation, seeking to improve access to water for all Nigerians. He is currently a member of Board of Directors of the Reality of Aid (RoA) Africa and the Chair of the Board of Directors of Africa Civil Society Network on Water and Sanitation (ANEW).

He holds a Higher National Diploma in Agriculture (HND) from the then Bendel State College of Agriculture (Anwai-Asaba) (1989), Diploma in Journalism from the International Institute of Journalism, IIJ, Abuja (1996), Post-Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM), from the University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria (2003). He is married with children. 

 

Catherine Mwango
Vice Chairperson

Catherine Mwango M.A in Management studies with 35 year of post graduation work experience; Vast experience in running Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion projects for the last 11 years as an Executive Director of Kenya KWAHO an organization that is a member of (KEWASNET); Member of various boards i.e. Lake Victoria WSB Water board (six years - retired);
 Current National Convener of Household Water Treatment and Safe Storage Technical Working group of the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation (MoPHS); Current Treasurer of KEWASNET.

 

Prof. Edward Kairu
Member of the board - East Africa

Prof. Edward Kairu Prof. Kairu has over 20 years experience in development work mainly in African countries. He worked for the UNDP/ UNOPS as the Chief Technical Adviser, attached to the Lesotho Ministry of Tourism, Environment and Culture. He has also worked as an adviser to the UNDP/ Global Environment Fund within the Asia - Pacific region and as a Consultant for UNDP Liberia and UNICEF Kenya. Kairu has taught at various Kenyan universities for over 10 years. He holds a PhD in Climatology from McGill University (Canada); MSc in Hydro Climatology and BSc (Physics, Mathematics and Geography) from the University of Nairobi. Currently, he is the Executive Director of Maji na Ufanisi (Water and Development) a Kenyan NGO dealing with Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation (WES) and also the ANEW board Member for East Africa - African Civil Society Network on Water and Sanitation

 

Eng Francis Musinguzi
Treasurer

BA/ Msc. Water and Engineering; expertise in Trans-boundary Water resources Management; IWRM; Finance Management and governance; Works with Africare Regional Water Program with sector experience of more than 10 years; Treasurer to the board of UWASNET for a second electable term;

 

Ousseni M. Diallo
Member of the board - West Africa

Ousseni M. Diallo

Ousséni Diallo has several years experience in the WASH sector in Africa. He is President of Green Cross Burkina Faso and has been a member of the Green Cross International Board since 2010. Ousséni was the founding member of UNESCO Clubs in Burkina Faso in his youth. Through his engagement in WASH, environmental protection and logical management of natural resources, he has held many high-ranking positions not only in Burkina Faso but also throughout West Africa. Diallo was the coordinator of numerous regional and national projects and programmes. On behalf of ANEW, he has taken part in many important international meetings worldwide.

 

Daouda Elhadj Adam
Member of the board - Central Africa

Daouda Elhadj Adam Experience in developing regional WASH sector policies and programs; experience carrying out negotiations with government agencies; senior level management. He is from Central Africa Chad

 

Mireille Ngoma Antel
Member of the board - Central Africa

Mireille Ngoma Antel Mireille is a practicing lawyer based in Kinshasa, member of MBM Cabinet Council and Society of Lawyers. She is in charge Head of the Department Water Resources in the Non Governmental Organization called Lawyers for the Africans Environmental Protection and Defence of the Rights of Local Communities (Lawyers Greens Ong).
She holds Law degree from the University of Kinshasa, has also been highly involved in advocating for human rights, right to water and sanitation in emergencies, in Integrated Water Resources Management and Advocacy Training of trainers.

 

Fatma Zerouati
Member of the board - North Africa

Fatma Zerouati Fatma is an Ecological Engineer and an Environment specialized journalist. She is currently the Director of the Algerian Television - channel 3.
She is a board member for the Observatoire de l' Environnement and member of the Arab Network for Environment and Development.

 

George W. Chaima
Member of the Board-Southern Africa

George W. Chaima Senior management experience – country director; experience of more than 10 years in different capacities as Council member of NGO/CSO of Malawi; Belong to several (not stated) global net works on WASH and policy services; author of different research papers; pastor.
